Indiana Michigan Power begins aerial tree trimming

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Michigan Power began cutting trees around transmission lines in northern Indiana on Wednesday. It is planned to use a helicopter with an air saw.

Pruning began on September 30 and continues from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Sundays in October in Counties Allen, DeKalb, Noble, Kosciusko, Elkhart, Whitley, Huntington, Grant, Wabash, and Wells.

The job is routine maintenance to remove branches over or near the power lines that can cause problems.

The tool used to trim the branches is a vertical row of saw blades mounted on a vertical boom that hangs from the bottom of the helicopter.
